Course

History standard grade: The study of history gives pupils an insight into their own lives and in the society in which they live. It helps them understand political, social, economic and technological forces, which have shaped the modern world. Pupils who study history are active learners who will have to make judgments and decisions on the basis of evidence. They will examine a wide range of sources including books, diaries, letters, films, maps, tapes, music, documents museums and personal collections, buildings and other features of the man-made landscape. This evidence has to be carefully in terms of authenticity and reliability. By considering such issues as bias and propaganda, pupils become better prepared for taking their place in adult society. The study of history encourages children to form their own opinions based on evidence, develops a willingness to listen to others peoples points of view.
