Course Information

Second Year

We follow the Fife 5-14 programme in S2. Topics taught are as follows

  • Creation Stories
  • Festivals and Celebrations
  • Exploring Worship
  • Sacred Writings
  • Ways of Living
  • Belief Matters

 

S3-S4 Core

Intermediate 1 Units  are tackled by all pupils.

Qualifications are awarded to successful candidates at the end of fourth year.

The unit currently on offer is 

  • Nature of Belief - looks at the nature of belief as well as the philosophical debate about the existence of God

The Unit, Justice in the World is currently under development

Standard Grade

Religious Studies Standard Grade is a two year course which involves study of the following topics:

              • Hinduism 
              • Christianity
              • Issues of Belief
              • Issues of Morality

 

S5-S6: Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies

Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies is available as an elective at Intermediate 2 and Higher Levels for fifth and sixth year pupils.

The following topics are studied:

  • Christian Ethics in a Secular Society: Rich and Poor in the Developing World
  • Christianity: Critiques and Challenges: Christianity and Science
  • World Religions: Buddhism

 

Career Choices

Religious Studies at Standard Grade and Higher levels is highly recommended for a number of possible career choices, particularly those that involve working with people.

It is particularly recommended for Primary Teaching.

It is strongly recommended for the following: Politics, Social Work, Journalism, Psychology, Information Officer, Prison Worker, Missionary, Publishing, Counselling, Librarian, Magistrate, Church Work, Primary Teaching, Community Work, Writer, Charity Worker, Minister of Religion, Police, Sociology, Anthropology, Radio, Television, Market Research, Retailing, Stockbroker, Nursing, Air Hostess
