It was founded by two Tibetan monks who escaped the Chinese occupation of Tibet. The overnight visit to the centre gives Higher pupils a valuable opportunity to experience a working Buddhist community.
The Shrine Room at Samye Ling Mediterranean CruiseOur first two cruises in April 2001 and 2003 were a complete success. Our first cruise involved visits to Greece, Syria, Israel and Egypt. The political situation in Israel forced and change of plans and nearly prevented our visit but it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. Our second cruise nearly didn't happen at all due to the Coalition war against Iraq - yet everything went off without a hitch. In fact, one could say that the lack of tourists in our destinations (Egypt, Rhodes, Ephesus and Istanbul) was a factor in our favour. One of the highlights was our Nile Cruise with excellent food and entertainment. Our next cruise is being planned for April 2005 and will involve (world situation permitting) a cruise down the Suez canal to the Red Sea with visits to Cairo, Luxor and St. Catherine's Monastery in Sinai included in the itinerary. You can see photos from the 2001 trip atwww.btinternet.com/~cruise2003 .
Below are some of the destinations we will visit in 2003.
