Eurorelations

S6 pupil, Julie Geyer, recently had the unique opportunity to learn more about the European Parliament whilst improving her French. She embarked on a 6 day trip to Strasbourg in France after she was chosen by the Rotary Club to take part in the Euroscola project.

Whilst there, Julie, along with a group of other Scottish Advanced Higher French pupils, took part in a number of interesting activities, including a tour of Strasbourg explained in French, trying traditional French cuisine such as snails, and taking part in a discussion in the European Parliament. The group also did a survey of local French people on what they knew about Scotland, which resulted in some strange answers, such as “Scotland is in the south of France” and, “The capital of Scotland is Dublin!”

Julie said, “The trip was a fantastic experience that I will never forget, and the opportunity to practise my French and meet lots of new people was brilliant. I would like to thank Howe of Fife Rotary Club for giving me this opportunity.”

Reaching New Heights

Over the 7th and 8th of March, pupils travelling to Tanzania in July took part in an exciting 2 day trip to Pitlochry, where they climbed local mountain, Ben Vrackie.

Despite the typical Scottish weather, the pupils found the climb to be an exhilarating experience, and they learned lots of valuable team working skills which will serve them well when they jet off on their month long Tanzania expedition.

“I really felt like the weekend will prepare us for some of the things we’ll face on the trip. I think we all grew stronger as a team too, and a lot of us really bonded over the weekend”, explained S6 pupil Alan Bond.

As the trip grows ever closer, the training weekend proved an exciting taster of things to come for all the pupils taking part in the trip, and they look towards July with eager anticipation.

Galloping Success

Congratulations to Bell Baxter’s equestrian teams who took part in the Scottish Schools Rivals Cup Team Show-Jumping competition at Jumps Equestrian Centre in Carluke last Sunday.

After a closely contested and exciting day of competition, Bell Baxter’s Prefect team of Rebecca Gatherum, Louise Christie, Sarah Gatherum and Kim Dawson won the title of Champion School team, with Bell Baxter’s second team of Sam Smith, Rebecca Macmillan, Charlotte Cumming and Sarah Dawson achieving 6th place overall.

This is a great result, well done to all.

Hockey Results

As the hockey season draws to a close, Bell Baxter’s VI team finished it on a high with a 2-0 win over Dunfermline High School last Thursday.

Saturday saw the VI take on the FP’s at Wetlands, which resulted in a 1-1 draw – a fair result!

Radio Broadcasting

A selected group of media students had the chance to see a demonstration from Synergy Radio Company. The project allowed pupils to see what is involved in setting up their own radio station within the school. This was a brilliant opportunity which we will be “listening” out for in future.
