It’s straight back to work at Bell Baxter after the Easter holidays, as we head into the busiest time of the school year. S3 pupils are drawing to the end of their third year exams, having had their first real taste of the exam season.
S4 break off on study leave this week in preparation for SQA exams, which start at the beginning of May. Before exams and then the move into S5, the whole S4 year group attended a special Leavers ceremony on Tuesday for those pupils in the year who have chosen to move on from school and into new paths in life. The pupils were presented with Leavers Certificates, and a special certificate for the 40 leaving pupils who have gained Rectors Awards in all four years at Bell Baxter. In addition, S5 and S6 break off for study leave next Thursday.
We wish all pupils who will not be returning to school after study leave, as well as all those sitting SQA exams, the best of luck.
Last Thursday, Islamic scientist Bruno Guiderdoni travelled to our school to hold a discussion about the relationship and compatibility between the Muslim religion and recent scientific discoveries.
Higher and Advanced Higher classes attended the debate, putting forward their comments and questions to the scientist, and hearing some thoughtful and insightful answers! A representative from BBC Radio Scotland was on hand to record the discussion, which was broadcast on a morning show last Sunday.
In the show interview, Bruno stated how impressed he was with the depth of thought of the pupils’ questions; so well done to those who took part. Perhaps we’ll be seeing some budding philosophers emerging from our school soon!
Bell Baxter’s musical talents were once again on show as six bands took part in the Fife Schools Rock Bands Competition in a bid to win the Donald Ferguson Memorial Trophy.
The bands were of a variety of ages ranging from 3rd to 6th year. The school heat took place on April 22nd and 6th year band Urban City Lights were successful in getting through to the competition final which takes place in the Rothes Halls.
The final will be on June 30th against bands from Madras College and Waid Academy. A huge well done to Gavin Brady, Craig Dewar, Gregor Graham and Craig Hannigan. Good Luck in the final boys!
The second issue of school magazine “The Squeeze” was put on sale this week, and was snapped up by eager hands for the mere price of £1. The team have worked hard on the magazine since its first issue, and hope to continue with regular publications throughout the year. Make sure you pick up a copy!
